Waerebo Village Flores Indonesia
Waerebo is Traditional adat Village situdated in the highland of Manggarai – Flores Island – Indonesia. Waerebo Village is located in Satarlenda Subdistrict, West Satarmese, West Manggari Regency. This Village is known as Village on Cloud because located above the mountain and only on foot you can reach this village. The people of Waerebo have kept their traditions intact ever since their ancestors decided to settle in the area. It is believed that their ancestor, Empo Maro, came from Minangkabau, on the western part of Sumatra Island.
Waerebo is one of traditional adat village with authentic characteristics in the district of Manggarai. The daily lives of the people there with their unique traditions and well preserved ancestral objects, as well as the beautiful nature around the village, form the main assets for tourist to come there.
Waerebo is the only adat village in Manggarai that still maintains the traditional Mbaru Niang house of Mangarai. “Mbaru” mean house and “niang” means tall and round. Mbaru Niang has conical shape and if the house structure is laid down, you would see circular sectors like the ones found in the lingko crop lands. The shape of the houses symbolizes the unity among the people of Waerebo. The circular floor plan is symbol of harmony and jutice among the people and families within the house.
